This seven-line piyyut is attributed to Rabbi Nehunia ben HaKana from the first century CE.
According to the Kabbalists, the prayer is based on the 42-letter Divine Name mentioned in the Talmud: “Rabbi Yehuda said in the name of Rav: The 42-letter Name is entrusted only to one who is modest and humble, spiritually mature, not quick to anger, does not get drunk, and does not persist in strict judgment.”
This Divine Name is encoded in the first forty-two letters of the Book of Genesis, from the word “Bereshit” to the letter Bet of the word “Vavohu.”
The letters are transformed through a secret Kabbalistic formula to form the 42-letter Name.

Rabbi Nehunia ben HaKana foresaw a time when spiritual connection would weaken, so he composed a prayer whose initials reveal these sacred combinations.

According to Kabbalah, each letter group corresponds to one of the seven sefirot:

Abg Ytzh – Chesed: energy of giving – Capricorn and Aquarius (Saturn)
Kra Shatan – Gevurah: removing negativity – Sagittarius and Pisces (Jupiter)
Ngd Yksh – Tiferet: abundance and light – Aries and Scorpio (Mars)

Shkv Tzit – Malkhut: renewal and releasing physical, emotional, and spiritual blockages – Cancer (Moon)
